We’ll assess and rate your hotel to help boost your business
Is this the scheme for me?
If you offer formal accommodation with full service, then our hotel scheme is the one you should join. Alternative schemes include the VisitEngland Guest Accommodation Scheme, for less formal accommodation, often without full service, and the VisitEngland Budget Hotels Scheme, for hotels offering low-priced accommodation with limited service. Businesses using the word ‘hotel’ as part of their name should be assessed under the hotel scheme.
Within the scheme, there are a number of designators to allow you to obtain a rating which matches your type of business and give potential guests an idea of what to expect. At the time of your assessment, you will have the chance to discuss your designator with the assessor.
Hotel: serviced accommodation with a minimum of 5 bedrooms and providing hotel services
Small hotel: smaller hotels with a maximum of 20 bedrooms that are likely to be personally run by the proprietor. They may not provide all services expected at the star rating, but a dispensation may be offered
Country House Hotel: hotels with ample grounds or gardens, in a rural or semi-rural situation with an emphasis on peace and quiet
Town House Hotel: high quality town or city centre properties of individual and distinctive style with a maximum of 50 bedrooms. Public areas and dinner service may be limited but room service will be available and there is a high ratio of staff to guests. Where a dining room is not available, room service breakfast is acceptable. Note: this designator can only apply to hotels with a 3-5 star rating
Metro Hotel: a town or city hotel providing full hotel services with the exception of dinner, but within easy walking distance of a range of places to eat
